Description ' The Lord Herbert, Eldest Sonne of the Right Honourable the Marquis of Worcester, was Elected into the Society.

The Curator made an Experiment with Ayre produced out of Botled Ale, putting it into a Glasse vessell, to See whether and how long a Candle would burne in it,and wee found, that it would no more burne in this Ayre , than it did in Aire generated out of Aqua fortis and pounded Oyster Shells.

It was proposed, that something might be thought upon for correcting this Aire, so as to make a candle burne or an animal live in it.

The Curator Said he would consider of it , and try whether it might be corrected by Precipitacion.

Sir R Moray produced a paper: it was read, containing an account of Some Experiment made by Dr Walter Needham and Mr Wiseman, with the liquor sent out of France, where it is famous for Staunching of Blood in a little time, without any escarr, Suppuration or cicatrice.

It proved Successfull, though in these tryalls not in Soe short a time, as the Paresians Say they have found it.

Sir R Moray mentioned, That Sir S Moreland had given out to have Invented a kind of a force Pump that Should performe better then other Pumps hitherto used, that it should have no Rubbings but all impediments removed, and the whole Strength applyed: And that the King had referred it to the consideracion of the Committees of the Navy in order to make use of this way in Shipps.

The Same related alsoe, that the SamePerson had proposed a way for weighing of Ankers with Ease and Safety. Whereupon Mr Hook affirmed, that he had Severall years agoe devised a convenient way for doeing the Same thing: which haveing discoursed Somewhat of in generall, he was desired to consider of it againe, and to acquaint the Company with particulars at another Meeting.

Dr Grew Shewed the Company two microscopicall Observacions upon a peice of ffirr and another on Oake-wood, concerning which he promised to bring iin a description in Writeing. '
