Date9 July 1690
Description ' Sir John Hoskins in the Chaire

On occasion of reading the Minutes Mr Henshaw said, that He hath frequently used to cover his Fruit in Winter with a wet blanket which frozen becomes very close and shuts out the Air And besides the Ice in the blanket by a Sort of Sympathethie does attract the cold, and preserves the fruit after the Same manner as frozen Egg sare Saved by putting them in water.

Mr Henshaw produced a Sample of the Spanish Peas called there Garavanges which grew like a Sort of Vetch with short podds not above 4 in a podd, and the back of the podd bearded with two Edges.

The Same produced a Bean-pod of an extraordinary figure, there being 4 Junctures of the Shell, whereas ordinarily there are but two of them. This was occasioned by some distortion of the beans, when young, it being found on opening that the beans lay double towards the end of the pod, tho' the eys or places, where the beans were affixed to the shell were orderly ranged.

Mr Hook produced a sort of Bean, that is a certain vomit called in Ceylon, Camara walla, which was given him by Captain Knox, and was gathered by hiim on the Island Mauritius. who Sais the same grow plentifully on the Isle of Ceylon.

On discourse about the advantages of the fitness of the bullet to the bore of the piece, it was ordered that the Experiment of shooting a Candle out of a gunn to See if it would penetrate a deal-board, should be tried at the next meeting, and Mr Hook was ordered to get things ready. '
