Title | Early correspondence between Professor Joshua Harold Burn, FRS, Sir John Vane and others (1950s) |
Date | 16 July 1952 - 19 October 1959 |
Description | This file consists of correspondence composed between 1952-1954, when Sir John Vane held the post of Visiting Professor at Yale University, and 1958-1959, when Sir John Vane was working at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, London (later part of the Royal College of Surgeons). The earlier letters concern Sir John Vane's decision to return to Britian at the end of his Professorship, and he asks Professor Burn's advice and opinion on the options available to him. The later letters largely relate to professional matters, such as symposia and talks, and the research both scientists are conducting into the effects of amphetamines and similar substances. Also included is a letter from Sir John Vane to Professor Burn in which he states his reasons for deciding not to apply for the Chair at Leeds University, depiste Professor Burn's recommendation (October 1958); and a complimentary letter from Professor Burn to Sir John Vane, regarding his 'first class' paper about '5HT and its difference from tryptamine' (October 1959). |
