DescriptionThis file consists of the material used by Sir John Vane to write his 'Apprection' of Professor Burn, for the address given at his Memorial Service at Balliol Chapel, 17th October 1981. It consequently contains much biographical information about Professor Burn, as well as details of the work he produced. Amongst other items, the file includes: copies of the notes contained in Professor Burn's Personal File, held at the Royal Society; a copy of a detailed summary of the main fields of research with which he was involved, 'Work of J H Burn'; a leaflet suggesting the establishment of the J H Burn Fellowship, after his retirement from Oxford in 1959; a copy of a list of papers by Professor Burn, updated to June 1972; a copy of an article published in 'Nature' (volume 231, May 28, 1971), 'Release of noradrenaline from sympathetic endings'; 'Essential pharmacology', by Harold Burn (reprinted from 'Annual review of pharmacology', volume 9, 1969). The file also contains an annotated typescript of Sir John Vane's address, and a further copy headed 'penultimate draft', and notes from Professor Burn's friends, colleagues and family regarding the address.
