Described as ' The length is 4 feet 3 inches and a half.
It was broke off here at the taking it down iin August 1733 when the House was on fire.

This Chimney Peice is of English Oake Planck and now very firm tho' 718 years Old and never painted. By the date 1016 upon it is demonstrated that the Indian Characters were then used here in Enghland, of the use of which here we have no earlier Account before the above than that of 1090 a date mentioned in the Philosophical Transactions, an Age after this. The Carving is very fair, the letter and figures project out above a quarter of an inch. '
