DescriptionTwo diagrams showing high and low waters at Sheerness, Kent, determined by self-registering tide gauge. The height of tide in feet is plotted on the vertical axis, with time in hours and quarter-hours on the horizontal axis. The curves contain occasional notes on wind direction and strength.

Headed: [p.2]: 'Diagram shewing the Time of High and Low Water at Sheerness Traced by the Tide Gauge between New Moon 6th Septr. A.M. and Full Moon 21st Septr P.M. 1831'. Repeated [p.3] reversed for Full and New Moon, both P.M., for the dates 21 September to 5 October 1831. Stamped [p.1]: 'Soc. Reg. Lond.'. The diagrams are signed [p.2 and p.3]: 'J. Mitchell'.

The tide gauge from Sheerness Dockyard, used in these observations, is in the collections of the Royal Museums, Greenwich [ID ref. NAV0996].
