Description | Temperature and atmospheric pressure readings taken twice daily, morning and afternoon, times varying. With notes on rainfall in inches, totalled monthly. Wind directions are also provided, and general weather notes. Thermometer readings are recorded as being 'in shade'.
The manuscript concludes with general descriptive remarks from Harris [pp.27-32], beginning: 'The Seasons in Bengal have altered greatly since I have been a Resident in this Country...' He states that 'My barometer and Rain Gauge are about 20 feet above the Level of the Country, which is perfectly flat'. There is a section [pp.30-31], apparently describing Harris's rain gauge, which has been struck through: this starts: 'My Rain Gauge was made after the Plan you gave me before I left England...' and therefore this later section may originally have been part of a letter to an unknown correspondent.
