| Description | A literary gentleman about to publish the History and Antiquities of Carlisle and its vicinity has asked Walton to furnish information about the Helm Wind, prevailing in the neighbourhood. Walton's paper on the subject was read at the Royal Society, and he asks if he may share a copy, which he has, with the author. He does not wish to do anything against the rules of the Society. He forwards extracts from his meteorological journal, which has the interest of the immense quantity of rain which fell on the district: 51 1/2 inches in 1837 and 61 1/2 inches in 1836. Allenheads is 1400 feet above sea level. He could give a daily journal if desirable, but for now he sends monthly averages.
