Description | Daily meteorological observations [pp.1-25] made at 9.00am and at 3.00pm at Allenheads, Northumberland, England, 1 January-31 December 1840. Columns for date, barometer readings, with attached thermometer and an external thermometer. With rain in inches and direction of the wind at 9.00am, and general remarks. There is a concluding set of mean results for the year [p.26].
The main data is followed by 'A few remarks on the Rain-gauge', discussing problems of rain gauge design, with illustrations. This is annotated in pencil, with a final note [p.39] commencing: 'The Author is here misled by the circumstances of his Locality...L.H. 29 April 41' [Luke Howard].
