DescriptionDaily readings of temperature at noon and at night, with notes on rain and wind at each time. The observations were made inside a house, using a Fahrenheit thermometer.

Commencing: 'The Medium Heat & Cold of Bencoolen [Bengkulu, Sumatra, Indonesia] by the Thermometer'. There is an extended postscript to the main tables, signed 'John Macdonald, Fort Marlbro' 5 December 1784', providing details of the observation site and timings, and on the construction of Bencoolen [Bengkulu, Sumatra, Indonesia] houses. 'These observations were noted when the air was at its greatest degree of heat and cold, which on the West Coast of Sumatra is, generally, at one o'clock in the aftrenon and at five o'clock in the morning. The Thermometer was kept in a Room, the windows of which, were, generally, open; and shut at night...'
