DescriptionThirty-seven hourly observations, commencing at 6.00am on 21 September and continuing to 6.00pm on 22 September [Autumn equinox]. With columns for: observation number; atronomical time of observation; barometer readings reduced to 32 degrees Fahrenheit and to 32 degrees Fahrenheit and RS standard; temperature measured by internal thermometer and external dry and wet external thermometers; wind direction and force; quantity of blue sky; and remarks on the general state of the weather.

Headed: 'Hourly Meteorological Observations made at Feldhausen, CGH on the 21st and 22d September 1837 by Sir John F.W. Herschel.'

An short note below the main table commences: 'Temperature of water in well 30 feet deep...'. Endorsed [p.2]: 'Meteorological Hourly Obs. Feldhausen Sir J.F.W. Herschel Sep. 1837'. With a typed paper label: 'Feldhausen Cape of Good Hope, 1836, 1837. JFW Herschel.'
