DescriptionDaily meteorological observations made at Fort William [Kolkata], India, usually two or three readings per day made at various times. Columns for day and time of observations, barometer and hygrometer readings, inside and outside thermometers, type of quantity of clouds, wind direction and force, rainfall, and general weather remarks. With a comparison of rainfall 1775-1776 [p.165] and a note on the position of the collecting funnel, signed and dated by Pearse.

Endorsed [p.1]: 'Meteorological Journal kept at Fort William in Bengal, 1776, by Major Thomas Deane Pearse'. Stamped 'Soc. Reg. Lond. ex dono Auctoris' and inscribed 'Presented Dec. 23 1784'. Signed by the author [p.78] 'Fort William 24 March 1777'.

The manuscript has been bound out of order. Entries for January-June [pp.1-78] are in the correct order, with the exception of pp.77-78, the pages of which are reversed. Entries for July-September [pp.79-101] are in reverse order, although pagination has followed the correct chronological sequence. Following some blank pages [pp.102-125] the manuscript resumes in the correct order for September-December [pp.126-165].
