DescriptionDescriptions of occurences of the southern lights by personnel of the National Antarctic Expedition (also known as the 'Discovery Expedition'). Includes some pencil sketches, charts and diagrams, and a printed chart labelled as having been printed at the offices of the South Polar Times.

Instructions in the front of the volume direct observers to record the following information:
Time of appearance
Position of arch and altitude in relation to known landmarks
Amplitutde and position of extremities
Herald of arch
Rate of motion of arches and which edge is best defined
Length to arc of streamers
Exact position of corona if seen
Temperature, cloud and wind
Intensity by comparison with stars

Observations have been enterd by: Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Charles Royds, Edward Wilson, Reginald Skelton, Sir Ernest Shackleton, Thomas Vere Hodgson, Albert Armitage, Michael Barne, Reginald Koettlitz, Hartley Ferrar, and Louis Bernacchi.
