Title | Letter from Janet P Trevelyan, Honorary Secretary, The British-Italian League, 5 Victoria Street, Westminster, S.W.1, to the Secretary of the Royal Society |
Creator | Trevelyan; Janet P (fl 1918); Honorary Secretary, The British-Italian League |
Date | 12 March 1918 |
Description | Requests the Royal Society Council to consider allowing the League to use the Royal Society's Lecture Room at Burlington House for lectures in May by distinguished Italian visitors. The League is working with the Board of Education and the Propaganda Department of the Foreign Office to organise a visit by a delegation of Italian university men to strengthen intellectual ties between Italy and England post-war. Sir Rennell Rodd is inviting ten to twelve distinguished Italian professors on behalf of His Majesty's Government. Indicates that at least one of these professors might lecture in English, and the Royal Society's Lecture Room is deemed the best venue. The first lecture would be by an Italian visitor, possibly presided over by a Cabinet Minister, with the remaining lectures by Englishmen or other delegation members, depending on acceptance responses from Sir Rennell Rodd. |
