DescriptionReporting of assistant secretary [Charles Richard] Weld's refusal to accept a delivery of a box of copies of the seventh volume of the Edinburgh Astronomical Observations. Smyth heavily criticises Weld's reaction as a grave insult and requests its rectification.

[Responded to by Weld on 18 February 1848, clarifying the Royal Society's position in relation to the Royal Observatory Edinburgh and justifying his refusal of the box of volumes.]
