| Description | Regarding a report of the Committee the Royal Society had appointed to advise them on the proposal concerning an Antarctic Expedition. Markham is pleased to learn the views of the Council of the Royal Geographical Society shared by the Council of the Royal Society, regarding the importance of despatching an Antarctic Expedition. The Geographical Society intend to confur with other scientific societies and forward them a copy of the same report. Refers to the question of expense, and a letter from the Secretary of the Treasury to the Under Secretary of State for the Colonies dated 3 January 1888, in which 'indicates' an expedition is not 'impossible'. Remarks on the value of the report. |
