Title | Letter from George Hamilton, India Office, Whitehall, to Sir William Huggins, President of the Royal Society |
Creator | Hamilton; George Francis (1845-1927) |
Date | 16 February 1903 |
Description | [This letter was dictated].
Informs that Lord Curzon has been asked 'to pay a special compliment Professor to [Jagadis Chunder] Bose by inviting him yo deliver a lecture on his discoveries'. But before doing this Curzon would like to know the opinion of scientists in Englad on the 'merits of Professor Bose's worth and investigations'. Hamilton requests Huggins opinion in this matter which he can then pass on to the Viceroy. He asks Huggns to 'bear in mind that scientific research is so far as the natives [sic] of India are concerned, in its infancy, that the qualities it requires are not often found in oriental races [sic] and that the standard of appraising Professor Bose's perusal work should not therefore be regulated by too high a test'. |
