TitleLetter from [Thomas Edward] Thorpe, Government Laboratory, London, to [Robert William Frederick] Harrison
CreatorThorpe; Sir; Thomas Edward (1845-1925); British chemist
Date1 March 1904
DescriptionWhile using the Royal Society's rooms on Saturday afternoon to work on Yates paper, Thorpe was informed by Kennedy he was 'contravening a regulation'. Thorpe assures he was unware of any regulations which prohibited Fellow's from using the Royal Society's librray on a Saturday, and asks what a 'busy man' like himself is meant to do when Saturday is the only time he has to work on such things.

Enclosed is a copy of a typescript letter from the Assistant Librarian of the Royal Society to Thomas Edward Thorpe, dated 2 March 1904, consisting of three pages. The Assistant Librarian assures Thorpe his letter was the first he heard of this incident, and remarks Kennedy 'is getting old' and 'forgetful', and allowances must be made for his many 'good qualities'. Informs that the regulations are correct and allowances of course cannot be made, however sees no reason why the books Thrope would like to use cannot be taken out.
