TitleCopy of a letter from the President of the Royal Society to Mrs Caroe, Watlanda, Chiddingfold Surrey
Date5 August 1942
Description ' Mr Griffith Davies and Mr Winckworth have shown me the very accurate and attractive photographic copies of the portrait of Sir William which you were kind enough to send them. I know that there are a niumber of others, in particular the officers of the Society who served with him, who would like to get copies, and it would be of great interest to the Society also to get a copy of suitable dimensions for inclusion in the album of photographs of the presidents and other prominent past Fellows of th e Society. It would be quite unfair and improper to impose on your kindness any further, and I wonder whether you could do me the favour of letting me know where the photograph was taken so that we can get into touch with the photographer who has the negative , and get additinal copies? It would be a great pleasure, I am sure, to a number of us to have them. '
