TitleLetter from G Bolkestein, Netherlands Minister of Education, Arts and Sciences, and J H de Boer, Member of th e Royal Academy of Sciences of Amsterdam to The Royal Society
Date15 March 1942
Description ' We learn with great regret of the death of your president, Sir William Bragg.

In normal peace-time the Royal Academy of Sciences of Amsterdam would have presented to you a message of condolence. As this is now impossible, we feel that it is our solemn duty to write to you in the name of the Royal Scademy. Your Society has suffered a great loss by Sir William's death but in addition to that it will deeply shock the whole scientific world.

It would certainly not be in accordanmce with the humble character of this great man, great in every respect, to go into a long series of reminiscences on his fruitful life and work.

The memory of his name, however, will remain with all of us. With deep sympathy to the Royal Society and especially to Sir Lawrence Bragg. '
