Title | Copy letter from Sir Henry Thomas Tizard, to Professor Jan Belehradek, Rector, University Karlovy, Praha, Czechoslovakia |
Date | 12 October 1945 |
Description | Message of thanks from the Foreign Secretary of the Royal Society for hosting Sir Alfred Egerton on his recent visit to Czechoslovakia, the results of which were reported by Egerton yesterday to the Council of the Society.
Elements of this report are summarised, including Belehradek's appreciation for the delivery of back issues of 'The Proceedings [of the Royal Society of London]' due to the Royal Bohemian Society of Scientists and to the Library of the University of Brno, and the gift of six hundred pounds from the Horace Darwin Fund for assisting the rehabilitation of scientific work in Czechoslovakia through the purchase of scientific instruments in Great Britain. Tizard expresses relief and pleasure on hearing from Egerton that Universities and Technical Colleges in Czcehoslovakia are in a state of 'rapid rehabiliation and activity'. Thanks are particularly directed at the Minister of National Education and the Minister for Foreign Affairs. |
