Description | The working of the little fund set apart for Tyndall Studentships has been so successful that she would like to place a further £500 with the committee. She thanks the committee for its work, noting that the sum of £40 annually cannot be considered a living salary and therefore the committee has ruled that the holder must be a competent man who has other means of supporting himself, and only part of his time would be spent on mining researches. She thinks that the additional sum should not be used to increase the salary, but might be used for out-of-pocket expenses of the student, and this would vary from year to year. For large scale experiments, she understands that provision is made by the Miners' Welfare Board on the advice of the Safety in Mines Board. She asks that the matter is laid before Council and reiterates her sense of the 'good keeping' of the fund. |
