DescriptionMaterial relating to the Embossed Scientific Books Fund, intended to assist publishers in producing braille books on scientific topics for the use of the blind.

Correspondents include Reverend T C Fitzpatrick; Alfred Bray Kempe; A.M. Taylor, William Bate Hardy, Secretary, Royal Society; Assistant Secretary, Royal Society.

Includes discussion of the request from the managers of the Embossed Scientific Books Fund for the Royal Society to become the trustees of the fund if it operated on a permanent basis, and their proposed scheme of management, 1913; draft letter and memorandum to be sent to A.V. Symonds, Assistant Secretary of the Local Government Board; a statement of accounts of the fund for the Local Government Board; the placement of the fund on the Register of approved institutions, societies, and agencies for the Blind, 1919; brief summary report of the fund's work between 1918 and 1919; the impact of the war on their meetings and a request that the Council reappoint the present managers, whose four year periods of service have lapsed in the absence of applications for reappointment, 24 January 1920; applications through the Ministry of Health for grants towards services carried out by the fund, with the requirement that attendance registers be submitted alongside the application forms; covering letters from the Assistant Secretary to H.M. Taylor for circulars [not enclosed] from the Ministry of Health, including in relation to the Blind Persons Act 1920.

Also contains the entry for the fund in the Register of Institutions Societies, and Agencies for the Blind; blank Ministry of Health application form for 'Welfare of the Blind'.
