Description | Stating that the hopes raised by the Astronomer Royal (Nevil Maskelyne) that he might almost rest assured that the Board of Longitude would do something for his benefit in recognition of his late father's labours, have been wrecked. He has received a letter in which it is stated that his father had aready received sufficient compensation. He came near to committing suicide and now threatens to sue Dr Maskelyne for retaining certain important documents.
Mason contacted Banks on behalf of his Mother, Mary Mason, widow of Charles Mason, astronomer, believing his father's work on the Longitude problem deserved reward. |
