DescriptionBrass heliometer with a split lens, one half fixed, the other attached to a micrometer screw for sliding along the cut diameter. A plaque at the base inscribed 'Royal Society 2.0'. Originally developed for measuring the angular diameter of the Sun, this instrument was later adapted to make precise measurements of star positions, and often used in conjuction with James Short's telescopes. Created by John Dollond.
