ProvenanceCommissioned by General Roy for a Royal Society sponsored project: to determine the difference of longitude between the observatoires of Greenwich and Paris. Presumably returned to the Society post 1787. Lent to the Ordnance Survey office in Southhampton in 1840 where it was destroyed by an incendiary bomb on 23 November 1940.
