DescriptionGlass jar containing two specimens of polythene. Jar label inscribed: 'Polythene from the first 1 cut ever made. These specimens were made batchwise in 3/4 litre vessels in late 1936 or early in 1937. The sheet was prepared at Ardeer from material taken there for evaluation.' Jar lid inscribed: 'ICI' [Imperial Chemical Industry], leading British chemical manufacturers. 'Ardeer' refers to one of ICI's plants in Ardeer, Ayrshire, Scotland.
