Description | Collection of 24 large mineral specimens from various parts of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Presented to the Royal Society by M.V. Keldysh President of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Given on the occassion of a visit to the United Kingdom by a delegation from the USSR Academy of Sciences at the invitation of the President of the Royal Society, Howard Florey, 9-27 February 1965. A printed list of minerals, dated 1990, is stored with the specimens. |

PhysicalDescription | Large specimens in a varnished wooden presentation box, interior compartments for individual specimens, lined in black velvet. Partial thickness crack in the top of the lid, previous repairs to the base where it was becoming seperated due to weight of contents. |

Notes | One specimen is degraded (acidification) and has lost integrity becoming crumbly, it is stored in a seperate air tight plastic box. It has also caused corrosion of the original box lining and paper label before being rehoused. |
