TitleLetter from Humphrey Lloyd, Trinity College, Dublin to Edward Sabine
Date18 April 1848
Description[Discussion on the adjustments to the deflecting magnet]. Lloyd argues that the tube should be clear of the box at the lower and upper angles and the dimensions of the supporting plate are limited for that purpose. The diameter of the horizontal circle is also limited so that the deflecting arm can approach the vertical closely. Discussion on the deflection distance, the constant distance, and the subsidiary distance to determine p and q. Lloyd recommends adjustments to the tube in order to achieve this.
