TitleLetter from Edward Sabine, Tortington to Humphrey Lloyd
Date9 April 1837
DescriptionSabine has been asked by the Admiralty to order a magnetic instrument for the Cape [of Good Hope] observatory. Sabine suggested a Gambey, costing £40. Asks for Lloyd's advice on this subject and whether a similar instrument might instead be made by [Thomas] Grubb as it would be a 'credit to Ireland' and introduce the construction of such instruments in our own country'. [Thomas] Jervis [East India Company] has asked the Admiralty for a recommendation on what instruments and observations would be suitable for observatories in India. Sabine to write the report.

Regarding a report of the observations of Captains [Phillip Parker] King and [Robert] FitzRoy for FitzRoy.

Update on status of the report of the British magnetic survey Sabine is compiling.
