Title | Letter from Francis Beaufort, Admiralty to Edward Sabine |
Date | 5 December 1853 |
Description | Beaufort thanks Sabine for replying to his note and suggestions. After being confined to his room, Beaufort is now ready to undertake, under Sabine’s instructions, the two daily books for entering [variation] observations (that are sent to Beaufort, and collected from foreign journals). Beaufort informs Sabine that they will project for him a certain number of ‘skeleton fundamental charts for the different seas or quarters of the world’. Beaufort would like an expedition to be sent out to analyse magnetic parallels of latitude in the southern, eastern, and pacific seas ‘with good tools and good men’. Beaufort praises Sabine’s endeavours regarding magnetism. |
