TitleLetter from William Radcliffe Birt, Kew Observatory to Professor Royle
Date22 August 1850
DescriptionBirt discusses his salary. Birt informs Royle that he does not wish to inconvenience the committee by remaining at the [Kew] Observatory, and will vacate the premises once a settlement has been made to him. Birt expresses that he never wished to behave ‘unhandsomely’ to the committee. Birt refers to his note written on 5th June [see MS/257/1/179] and notes it was caused by a feeling that he could not proceed with observatory business with Mr [Francis] Ronalds, and expressed his wish for other arrangements. Birt regrets if his language was considered ‘improper or offensive’.
