Title | Letter from William Radcliffe Birt, Wellington Street, Victoria Park to Edward Sabine |
Date | 1 July 1851 |
Description | Birt remarks on the ‘injury inflicted’ on him by the Kew Committee. Birt comments on Mr [Francis] Ronalds ‘unfitness’ to run the departments of the [Kew] Observatory and refers to Mr Ronalds taking the credit for repairing the Kreil and made it appear that Birt’s work amounted to little. Despite Sabine’s encouraging words regarding Birt’s work on atmospheric electricity, Birt fears that the world believe he was unable to ‘continue a line of research that has contributed to the advancement of our knowledge’. Birt expresses his wish for the matter to be brought before an unprejudiced committee. Birt wrote to the Astronomer Royal and hopes that he will investigate the matter. |
