Description | Erman discusses the results of his calculations of Indian magnetic measurements made in 1868 by his friend Mr K Koppe, with instruments and methods they employed at Berlin ‘before his voyage’. Discussion regarding Madras [Chennai] observations, comparisons of values, ‘terrestrio-potential constants’, terrestrial magnetism, and the ‘exact laws of annual variation’. Refers to Seychelles and New Holland. Discussion regarding magnetic observations in northern European and Asiatic stations. Erman discusses Dr Adolf Bernhard Meyer and informs Sabine he will stay in London on his way to [Malacca], Singapore. Erman hopes Sabine will be able to provide some support to Meyer especially with a declination instrument, and ‘a very small but very important improvements of the compass in his Göttingen apparatus’. |
