| Description | Hull received a report of Sabine’s to the Royal Society regarding the Point Barrow magnetical observations. Refers to a report of the Athenaeum regarding a meeting of the British Association, and Hull is pleased to learn of the ‘continuance of the magnetic and meteorological observations’. Refers to observations at Point Barrow and ‘interesting comparisons’ with Toronto observations. Discusses reaching the McKenzie [River] though the Behring Straits, Hull remarks ‘passage’ through the Magellan Straits would be more dangerous than Joy Cape. Refers to ships and American whalers. Hull volunteers for any future endeavours, referring to his experience and successful observations, spending three years in the pacific, and on board the [‘HMS Herald and Plover’]. Refers to the McKenzie River expedition. A meteorological register was kept on board [‘HMS Havannah’] of which the first 18 months have been sent to Admiral [Robert] FitzRoy. Hull thanks Sabine for his ‘kind manner in which’ he has spoken of their ‘services’. |
