Welsh discusses alterations to the measuring apparatus. Welsh has asked Chambers to make George ‘an intelligent boy’, a measurer. Discussion regarding measuring the horizontal and vertical force curves. Welsh compares Sabine dip circle with theirs and ‘strange fluctuations between the two needles’. Reference to the Fort Carlton results, the Toronto results and the Makerstoun results. Welsh notes they do not have a record of the value of the scale divisions of Mr Blakiston’s unifilar. Reference to Captain Bedingfield’s departure and the organisation of expeditions. Welsh discusses Mr [Angelo] Secchi’s letter and his question regarding the temperature coefficients of his magnets.
