DescriptionThe diary describes Laing's trip to Sierra Leone's hinterland at Sir Charles MacCarthy's request. Laing chronicles his journey up the Rokelle River through the lands of the Mandingo and Timannee people to the town of Falaba. Here he records his interactions with local leaders, attempts to establish a trade route, geological observations, and ethnographic information.

Contains two large sketches and a number of smaller sketches embedded in the text. Marked 'N.3'.
