Description | Confers with General Master and the Chancellor of the Exchequer [Francis Thornhill Baring] in regards to the proposed magnetic survey of British possessions in North America, on the request of the Council of the Royal Society. States it it cannot go ahead with the present facilities and that it will not be expensive [to replca them]. Members of the Council will be requested to visit and explain the importance of the survey, most likely Sir John Lubbock and Major [Edward] Sabine. Informs that the survey has the recommendation of Major Sabine, Sir John Herchal, Prof. [George] Peacock, the Dean of Ely, the Physical Committee and the Council of the Royal Society. |
