TitleCopy letter from [Michael] Foster, Secretary of the Royal Society; to [Thomas] Burt Esq., M.P. 35 Lovaine Crescent, Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Date19 March 1883
DescriptionUpdates [Thomas] Burt on the mission to find an adjudicator for Mr. Lewe's 'Perfect Saftey Lamp'. Informs of the decision not to appoint one. This is due to the fact that no-one can confidently state a lamp 'would not explode under any circumstances', the merits of which to compare the electric lamp with other lamp would be difficult to establish, and examination will require experiments and apparatus at an expense.
