Description | Botanical study of a specimen of capsicum, common name chiltepin, Indian pepper or bird's eye chilli pepper. First known in Europe through the works of the Spanish botanist Dr Francisco Hernández de Toledo. Isaac Rand cultivated this pepper, and describes a sample to Samuel Brewer in a letter dated 18 September 1718.
Plant with small upright olive-shaped red peppers and unripe green fruit. Inscribed in ink 'Capsicum fructu olivario erecto, Rand. Chiltecpin, Hernand: N.3'. Not signed. |
