Description | Botanical study of a specimen of capsicum, common name chilli pepper. First known in Europe through the works of the Spanish botanist Dr Francisco Hernández de Toledo. Isaac Rand was Praefectus Horti of Chelsea Physic Garden, 1724-43, where this plant was most likely cultivated.
Plant with long red peppers and one unripe green fruit. Inscribed in ink 'Capsicum fructu non acre longo pendente rubro, n.11 Rand. Tesochilli, Hernand.' Not signed. |
