Description | Botanical study of Pinus sylvestris, common name Scots pine. Described by Swiss botanist Casper Bauhin in his 'Pinax Theatri Botanici' (1623). A variation of this painting is reproduced, in mirror image, in the Society of Gardeners' book 'Catalogus Plantarum' (1730) (plate 16, right figure, engraved by by Elisha Kirkall).
