| Description | Lloyd informs Sabine that he was unaware that he had been recently proposed as a candidate for the Athenaeum club. James [Clark] Ross proposed Lloyd and Sabine seconded him, though Lloyd notes he has not heard anything more on the matter. As Lloyd is rarely in London (and then with his wife), he has been unable to pursue this, and thought there would be no advantage from gaining membership to the club. However, Lloyd acknowledges if Sabine thinks otherwise on the matter.
[Henry] Barrow has written to Lloyd and understands his requirements. Lloyd promises there will be no blunders.
Lloyd informs Sabine that he has worked on the method discussed at the last meeting of the [Royal Irish] Academy and it will be printed soon. Discussion on the observers and the observations taken of the dip and absolute intensity. Discussion on the distance and its dependence on the length of the deflecting magnet. Lloyd discusses [Johann von] Lamont’s opinion on obtaining the coefficient of the term. |
