Title | Letter from Edward Sabine, Athenaeum to Humphrey Lloyd |
Date | 23 November 1839 |
Description | John Caldecott, director of the [Thiruvananthapuram] Trivandrum observatory established by the Rajah of Travancore, has come to London to purchase instruments for the observatory. He will soon go to Dublin to see Lloyd and to order more instruments directly from [Thomas] Grubb.
An instructor is required to go to Alexandria, to assist in the institution of a magnetic observatory there, as desired by the Pacha of Egypt.
[Charles James Buchanan] Riddell prefers Toronto to Montreal as the site for the Canadian magnetic survey.
Sabine recently received valuable series of variation, dip and intensity from Captains King and Wickham.
