Description[This is a continuation of MS/119/2/120]

Elliot refers to the registering thermometer. Elliot informs Lloyd that Sir [James Everard] Home was at the Singapore observatory and discusses his dipping needle. When Home turned the needle 90 degrees from the magnetic meridian it would not come into the vertical position. Elliot vibrated his needles with Home and informs Lloyd that Home is going to New South Wales. Home will probably connect the horizontal intensity at Singapore with the observatory in Van Diemen’s Land [Tasmania; Lutruwita or Truwana]. Discussion on the horizontal force increasing and the vertical force diminishing, Elliot argues the dip should also diminish. Elliot informs Lloyd the horizontal force has increased 19 divisions, with value of the declination and vertical force.
