DescriptionSmythe thanks Lloyd for sending a description of his new magnetical instrument. Discussion on low readings of the intensity from the declination magnetometer than was expected. Smythe sends Lloyd a copy of readings from 10am and 1pm [not enclosed], and discusses what these readings show and the possible cause. Smythe describes removing the magnet from its suspension thread and finding a difference that suggests its removal was the cause of the disturbance.
