Description | Timekeeping and magnetic records kept by Edward Sabine. The cover is inscribed: 'Official Record of Observations on the going of a Pendulum Clock, on the Magnetic Dip, and on the Intensity of the Magnetic Force.' The pendulum clock, described simply as 'No.2', is first compared against 'Mr Browne's clock by Cumming, 2 Portland Place, London, April 1818'.
The volume also contains a table comparing Pendulum Clock No. 2 against the Earnshaw chronometers 815 and 1024 on the Island of Brassa, Shetland April-May 1818 and at Hare Island June 1818. The latter sections of the volume contain results obtained using Mr. Browne's dipping needle commencing on the Isle of Grain, Sheerness from April 1818 and with magnetic force records to November 1818.
Observations compiled during the Arctic North-West Passage expedition led by Sir John Ross (1777-1856) aboard HMS 'Isabella' and accompanied by HMS 'Alexander' under Lieutenant William Edward Parry. The expedition reached Lancaster Sound at the north end of Baffin Island and entered Lancaster Sound. |
