DescriptionManuscript description of a series of portraits by Spruce of 'Indians [sic] of nine nations, all inhabiting the upper regions of the Rio Negro (including the Uaupes) and of the Orinoco'. Includes Tariana, Tucano, Pira and Carapana peoples of the Uaupes, the Barre tribe of the Rio Negro, the Maguisitasi, Guaharibo, and Guahibo peoples of the Orinoco, and the Macu people of the Rio Negro forests.

Includes discussion of important people, appearance and grooming.

Recounts an incident with several Guaharibo, when it was proposed that Spruce had 'taken away Kude-Kubui [a Guaharibo Indian]'s soul on that paper'.
