Title | Letter from Palon Heinrich Ludwig von Boguslawski, Breslau to Edward Sabine |
Date | 22 January 1840 |
Description | [Alexander von] Humboldt informed Boguslawski that the committee of the British Association concerned with foreign scientific cooperation with magnetic observations established by the British government and the East India Company have decided to send Boguslawski a vertical force magnetometer and a bifilar magnetometer, on Sabine’s recommendation. Boguslawski exoresses his gratitude, and notes the limited funds of the ‘Breslau’ [Wrocław] observatory.
Boguslawski refers to Professor [Johann Franz] Encke’s decision not to use the bifilar magnetometer, and alludes to its imperfections. Boguslawski discusses his various reasons to make observations with the instruments sent by Sabine. Boguslawski notes their ‘best’ meteorological instruments at Breslau [Wrocław] observatory, and discusses the conformity of instruments. |
