TitleLetter from John Allan Broun, Makerstoun, Kelso to Sir Thomas Macdougall Brisbane
Date29 April 1843
DescriptionBroun informs Brisbane of Professor [Humphrey] Lloyd’s suggestion of consulting Colonel [Edward] Sabine regarding any difficulties. The necessity of printing corrected observations, and discussion on Broun’s method of eliminating the effect of temperature, using an auxiliary declinometer for declination experiments, and the effect of temperature on the vertical force needle at Makerstoun Observatory. In Broun’s opinion Professor Lloyd has not provided a reason to show that their observations would be worth printing uncorrected. Discussion on printing terms and extra observations. Broun does not see the any point in printing scale observations and hopes Sabine could provide his opinion regarding this.
